Golden Safety
by Katie Holtmeyer
had a dream last night
that I crushed up my front door lock
and drank it down like a fine powder
a loud nightmare
where I held a key
that opened nothing
I screamed with all that
power of security behind me
and I washed it down with water
cleansed in the sins of muddy sediment
and busted deflated floaties
they never did their job right
and neither did you
I woke up and checked the lock
not because I was afraid
I had consumed it
but because I was afraid
it
had consumed
me
